HBR RECEIVE GRANT FROM MARITIME INLAND RESCUE FUND (PRESS RELEASE NOV 2017)

This week Minister John Hayes announced that vital water rescue charities are to receive £1 million for rescue equipment to keep UK rivers and seas safe. It is fantastic that yet again Hertfordshire Boat Rescue will benefit with a grant of £7270.

Sir Alan Massey, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, said: 'These smaller, independent charities are the lifeblood of our communities, playing a vital role in supporting the daily lives of thousands of people across the UK.

'We often need to remind ourselves that these brave women and men may be called at any time of the day or night to assist persons in difficulty. Those persons may be lost or injured, in trouble at sea, or needing to be rescued from fast-flowing water or floods.

'It’s essential that funding like this is available to independent lifeboats so that they have the proper emergency equipment to aid in rescues. This funding will help meet their goals and ease their financial burden.'

Hertfordshire Boat Rescue will be using this grant to replace 3 basket stretchers, 16 torches to improve night operations and to purchase 3 radios to increase communications to the rescue boats. Stuart Foreman (Chairman) said “this funding will allow the team to replace vital life saving equipment and to purchase some additional equipment to increase the capability and safety of the team”.

HBR RECEIVE FUNDING FROM EPPING FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL (PRESS RELEASE OCT 2017)

hanks to the generosity of Epping Forest District Council, Hertfordshire Boat Rescue have been able to purchase new radios for the team. It is vital that the team are able to maintain good communications while on training and deployment and this will mean that the team can be safer and help victims of flooding quicker and more efficiently.

Without donations such as this the team would be available to help members of the public.

HBR RECEIVE DACORUM BOROUGH COUNCIL GRANT (PRESS RELEASE MARCH 2017)

It is great that Dacorum Borough Council was able to help Herts Boat Rescue with this grant. It has allowed the team to replace a boat and engine, which was damaged during a training exercise, this will mean that the team will be ready to respond to any flood threat to the area. With this funding now in place the team will be able to expand its safety patrols around the waterways in the Dacorum and surrounding area, these safety patrols which take place each month allow the team to educate the public on water safety.

Hertfordshire boat rescue is a totally volunteer service and all funds have to be collected through grants such as this one and the generosity of public donations to enable to team to continue its work. The team is always looking for new members and these are both operational and non-operational.

Stuart Foreman (Chairman) said “It is fantastic news to be awarded this grant by Dacorum Borough Council and means that the team is able to respond to flooding incidents in the area much quicker and will also be able to educate the residents in Dacorum on water safety.

HERTS BOAT RESCUE RECOGNISED BY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT FUNDING (PRESS RELEASE JAN 2017)

We are delighted to announce that Herts Boat Rescue has been awarded £23,839.00 by the department of transport to provided an increased flood rescue service both in Hertfordshire and nationally.

These vital funds will be used to set up a much-needed second flood response team; the equipment required for this will be purchased with the funding and will include a second response truck, 8 new drysuits and 2 boats.

It is great news that the team has been recognized with this funding But we still need your help, whether it be financial to meet our ongoing running costs, help us source essential equipment, find safe and secure locations across Hertfordshire to store our lifesaving equipment or volunteers to fund raise or become operational team members.

HERTS BOAT RESCUE DEPLOYED TO EAST OF ENGLAND TIDAL SURGE (PRESS RELEASE JAN 2017)

Herts boat rescue was deployed on Thursday 12th January 2017 as part of a massive multi-agency incident along the East of England area to protect potential flooding victims in case of a tidal surge. The unpaid volunteer team sent from Herts boat rescue worked along side many other rescue organisations to ensure the safety of the public.

All team members where alerted at 1500 on Thursday 12th January 2017 and made there way to the holding point in Ipswich for 1730. This meant dropping all plans, changing work commitments and leaving their families for an unknown length of time at a moments notice.

The team where used in the Jaywick area to standby incase the tidal surge breached the sea defenses, luckily on this occasion the tidal surge, wind and high tides didn’t combine and the communities managed to escape major flooding.

The team was stood down at 1030 on Saturday 14th January 2017 where tied they made their way back, cleaned and repacked the kit ready for the next call and made their way back to their families and day jobs.
