Herts boat rescue's history

We started with just a few hundred pound and a lot of determination from members in 1996 which is when we opened our Boat rescue division which broke away from the Bishop's stortford lifesaving club.

Our members some giving over 30 years service to water safety and water rescue worked hard to get us off the ground and afloat with our only rescue boat a unsinkable dory 11 which is still used today only for patrols this now is over 25 years old. Over the years we gained more volunteers and equipment donateted by members and local grants to get us to 2000.

2000

we gained our first lottery grant to fund our first frontline rescue boat which enabled us to have more reliable equipment. and this then helped us with events which needed a larger rescue boat to deal with incidents

2001

we gained equipment for the rescue boats and volunteers. as well as this we gained some small grants to help us with running costs.

2002

We gained our first inflatable boat which enabled us to respond more eaisly to calls where access was a problem.this then made our lives much eaiser and helped us with the storage problem wehave with many of our other boats in the fleet.

2003

we gained our first grants for insurance for the club and for our first defibrillator for our frontline rescue boat we also gained a grant for oxygen cylinders to equip all first reponders for the organisation. this then gave them the best chance to save a life when somone drowns and also provides the firt part of the chain of survival for a victim.

2004

We gained grants for equipment and running costs so that we could focus on the running of the club and our rescue work.

2005

We gained our second fronline rescue boat which enabled us to place the units in seperate locations across herfordshire for more easy access and coverage.this then also helped us for larger incidents and also for the larger events requiring to boats to maintain safety cover.

2006

We moved forward by opening our search and rescue division this enabled us to search above and below the water line properly this made the package compleate.this was helped by two divers that were intrested in the water rescue side and this led onto the third rescue diver for the orgaisation.

We also gained our Rescue Tender which after some work now is fully equiped for any aquatic incident.

2007

We gained grants for a defibrillator for our second frontline rescue boat and for running costs of the group so we are able to again to focus on the running of the organisation.also this year we added our snorkel to our rescue tender which will help the vehicle through the deep water o route to a emergency.

2008

we gained a few  grants from local authoritys for equipment and garages and again we focused on running the club and ironing out any problems.we also got agrant for our oxygen again for two years.

with the economic crisis we are concerend with running costs.

2009

we worked hard again pushing the bounderies in water rescue no equipment was bought this year just the upkeep of existing equipment.

swift water rescue division was opened in the summer

2010

siwft water rescue eqipment was gained through the grassroots grant and also youngsters rescue equipment for patrols and lifesaving.
